LPEA to offer “Green Resource College” at Rocky Mountain Horse Expo

9/9/2009

New component to Expo to help horse owners and ranchers “save their energy”

DURANGO, Colo. – La Plata Electric Association (LPEA) has teamed up with the Colorado Horse Council to develop the “Green Resource College,” a new addition to the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo set for Sept. 18-20 at the Sky Ute Events Center, Ignacio.

Designed to introduce new technologies and help educate ranchers and horse owners about energy efficiency measures they can take to reduce their electricity consumption, the Green Resource College will feature a series of presentations as well as a small trade show with additional products and information.

“We’re very pleased to be able to partner with the Colorado Horse Council on this event,” said Mark Schwantes, LPEA manager of corporate services. “Technology continues to improve and there are new ways ranchers can take advantage of these energy efficiency measures and products. They can save energy, but also save money.”

Friday, Sept. 18, beginning at 9 a.m., focus will center on “Solar Energy on the Ranch” including topics such as solar photovoltaics (PV), solar thermal, Smart Home automation, net metering and available rebates.

Saturday, Sept. 19, beginning at 1 p.m. “Renewable Generation” is the theme, including discussion of wind energy, efficient LED grow lights, and solar retrofits of horse tanks and golf carts.

“Sustainability with Energy Efficiency/Conservation” will be covered Sunday, Sept. 20 beginning at 1 p.m. including a presentation from the Four Corners Office for Resource Efficiency (4CORE) plus geo-thermal and micro hydro options.

Pegasus Barns contractor Kathleen Burke, will also be on hand both Saturday (12 noon) and Sunday (11 a.m.), scheduled to discuss “Eco-Barns: Design or Retrofit to Save Energy and the Environment” as the event’s keynote speaker.
