LPEA Renewable Generation Meeting set for Aug. 5

7/19/2010

Quarterly meeting scheduled to focus on small and micro-hydropower

DURANGO, Colo. – Small and micro-hydropower renewable generation will be the focus for the La Plata Electric Association (LPEA) quarterly Renewable Generation Meeting, set for Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010.

The informational meeting will be held in LPEA’s multi-purpose/Board room at the cooperative’s Bodo Park headquarters (45 Stewart Street), beginning at 9 a.m., and this quarter is organized in partnership with the Southwest Water Conservation District. It is free and open to all interested in learning more about generating electricity through small hydropower installations on private properties.

Topics on the preliminary agenda include the small and micro-hydropower pilot rebate program launched by the Governor’s Energy Office (GEO), as well as information regarding installation assistance from the USDA Rural Development Office.

“We have some members who have already installed micro-hydro on their properties, and they will be able to share their experiences with this particular form of renewable generation,” said Sue Maxwell, LPEA project specialist. “There is also a relatively new micro-hydro project in Cortez, information about which we will be able to also share with those in attendance.”

LPEA launched the quarterly Renewable Generation Meetings in February 2010 as part of its ongoing effort to provide renewable energy generation education to its member-customers, and help facilitate local installations of solar photovoltaic, solar thermal, wind and small hydro electricity generation.

The Renewable Generation Meeting, depending on questions and interest from those in attendance, may last until noon. Reservations are not required, but appreciated, as refreshments will be served. For further information, or to RSVP, contact Maxwell directly at 970.382.7170, or email smaxwell@lpea.coop.

LPEA, a Touchstone Energy Cooperative, provides to its more than 30,000 members, with in excess of 40,000 meters, safe, reliable electricity at the lowest reasonable cost, while being environmentally responsible. For additional information, contact LPEA at 970.247.5786 or visit www.lpea.coop.
