Power lines are not playthings – it’s a message brought home to children throughout the region at La Plata Electric safety demonstrations.
LPEA has a traveling show, of sorts, that features a mobile, miniaturized set, which is “electrified.” Touching twigs (which burn) and dolls (which are zapped) to the power lines literally illustrates to children what can happen if they touch a charged wire.
The program is available for free to schools and organizations interested in safety training. Presentations are tailored to the age group and can range from 10-minute overviews for the very young to 40-minute comprehensive discussions. Available classes
Take-home handouts, including coloring books and puzzle books, are also distributed to the children, helping to reinforce the lessons learned at a later time.
