PAGOSA SPRINGS, Colo. (August 10, 2025) - La Plata Electric Association (LPEA) activated Emergency Power Shutoffs (EPS) at 2:25 PM today in response to the Oak Fire. Approximately 192 members are currently without power as the fire threatens critical electric infrastructure in the area. LPEA CEO Chris Hansen was on site today, collaborating directly with LPEA crews to oversee response efforts and ensure the safety of the community and utility assets.
“The safety of our members and the protection of vital infrastructure remain our top priorities,” said Hansen. “We are working closely with emergency partners to monitor fire conditions and restore power as soon as it is safe to do so.”
A EPS is a temporary, power outage intended to reduce the risk of electrical equipment igniting wildfires during high-risk conditions.
